Obituary of John S. Fernandes

John S. Fernandes, age 83, of Carver, formerly of Taunton, died on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel & Georgina (Faria) Fernandes. For many years, John worked as a social worker at the Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton and later worked as a wardrobe dresser in the Boston Theater District. John is survived by his longtime companion, Jim Collins of Carver; son, Wayne Fernandes of Taunton; brother, Edward Fernandes & his wife Lucille of Somerset; and sister, Olive Frazier of Fall River. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, (Route 58), Carver, on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Carver, on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 9:00 AM, followed by his funeral Mass to be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 130 Main Street, (Route 58), Carver, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Central Cemetery, Route 58, Carver. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the Carver Council on Aging, 48 Lakeview Street, Carver, MA 02330, where John was currently serving as the Secretary.
