Kenneth (Ken) Raymond Taylor, age 81, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, beloved husband, best friend and caregiver of Eleanor (Glass) Taylor for 56 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he loved and lived for, on Sunday, April 3, 2016. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy Carvalho, and his parents Frank and Lillian Taylor. Ken was born in Lynn Massachusetts. He spent the majority of his life on the South Shore, which he always considered home, moving between Kingston, Pembroke and Plymouth. Upon his retirement, Ken and Eleanor moved to the Villages in Lady Lake, Florida. He had many friends and was an avid marathon runner, enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing and “living the good life”. Ken graduated high school at Tilton Academy and from Dean College. He worked for thirty plus years at the Harvard School of Public Health and retired an officer of the University. He devoted much of his work life to medical research focused on developing an artificial blood substitute. Besides his wife Eleanor, Ken is survived by his sister Virginia Johnson of Lady Lake, Florida; his son Gregory Raymond Taylor of North Attleboro, Massachusetts and daughter Heather Ann Fontana of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; his grandchildren Meagan, Lindsey, Julia and Adam as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the University of Massachusetts ICU staff for their support and remarkable care, they were a blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing he was to all he touched and spent time with. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Monday, April 11, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 9:00 AM, followed by his funeral Mass to be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, 21 Green Street, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, www.alz.org
