Obituary of Sarah Meigs Hobbs Cody

Sarah Meigs Hobbs Cody died at The Village at Duxbury on March 11, 2016, after a brave 17-year struggle living with Primary Lateral Sclerosis. She was a former resident of Andover, MA, for 30 years before moving to Falmouth and then Duxbury. For most of her life she spent summers in Quissett. Sally was born in Boston on November 18, 1923, daughter of Dr. Joe Vincent Meigs and Elizabeth Wallace Meigs. She was the widow of John (Jack) Newlin Hobbs who passed away suddenly in 1963 and Coleman (Bill) Cody with whom she shared 24 years of marriage. A graduate of The Winsor School in Boston and Smith College in Northampton, Sally taught math and was the Middle School Coordinator at The Pike School in Andover, MA, for 25 years. She was an avid and skilled bridge player until recently and enjoyed golf at the North Andover Country Club and the Woods Hole Golf Club. Her many interests included gardening, puzzles and card games, birds, her computer, and needlework. She was a member of The Vincent Club and the Quissett Harbor Yacht Club. Sally is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Rodney DiClemente and her husband James of Andover and Patricia H. Tompkins and her husband Toby of New York City and Peterborough, NH; her brother Wallace Meigs of Hingham; two grandchildren Christopher DiClemente and his wife Vicky of Cedar Park, TX, and Elizabeth Legault and her husband Brett of Haverhill, MA; four great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kara DiClemente andCamden and Tenley Legault; her sister-in-law, Mary Rauscher of Concord, MA; her stepdaughter, Ann Pattison of Marblehead, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, two step-daughters-in-law, seven step-grandchildren, and a stepgreatgrandchild, and many friends. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Elizabeth Meigs Courtney, and her husband Peter;her sister-in-law Patricia Meigs; and her two stepsons, Steve and David Cody. The family would like to thank her niece, Katrina Courtney Randall who provided so much support over the last few years, her dedicated caregivers from Home Care Plus, Cranberry Hospice, and the wonderful staff at The Village. Sally will be buried at The Hildreth Cemetery in Dracut, MA. There will be a gathering at a later date.
