Obituary of George Lyman Richards II

George “Tad” Lyman Richards II, a longtime resident of Duxbury, MA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the age of 83.
Tad was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte (Pat) Graton Richards as well as his second wife of eight years, Elizabeth Safe Richards. He is also predeceased by his brother, Robert “Buzz” Richards and wife Annie, and by brother-in-law, James Manson.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Manson of Concord, MA and his two sons and their families: Christopher G. Richards, wife Karen and son Eric of Bolton, MA, and George (Tim) L. Richards III, wife Leigh and sons Zachary and Sam of Natick, MA. His three grandchildren truly adored their “Bumpa”.
A graduate of Kimball Union Academy and Boston University, Tad attended Middlebury College before serving as a HAM radio operator in the Korean War. Tad was an avid collector of rare stamps and coins, as well as fine wines. A lifelong learner with many varied interests over the years; he loved meteorology, investments, HAM radio, antique sports cars, boating, golf, gardening, and Dixieland jazz. He was a member of the Duxbury Yacht Club from 1959 until the time of his death. He will be sorely missed by many close friends and extended family.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Parish Church of Duxbury, 842 Tremont Street, Duxbury, MA, with a reception to follow in the community room of the Church.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
