Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George William (Bill) Phillips Sr, 72, of Middleboro, was called Home to Heaven on Friday March 4th, 2016. He was the devoted husband of Maureen (Churchill) Phillips and the loving father of Pamela Phillips of Plymouth, George (Billy) Phillips Jr. of Middleboro, Susan Nelson of Middleboro, William Cutting of Englewood, FL, Daniel Delaney of Middleboro, James Cutting of Middleboro, and Matthew Phillips of Middleboro . Bill is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Born August 23, 1943 in Boston, son of the late John D. & Edna G. (Dill), Phillips and brother of the late Mildred Phillips, Marjorie Pope, Dorthy Massey, and John Phillips After spending his childhood in Milton, Bill moved to Middleboro where he lived for almost 60-years. After high school, he worked in various fields before entering the HVAC industry, from which he retired due to his declining health as a result of ALS. It was within this industry where he excelled, being the recipient of many awards and accolades. He was widely recognized and respected for his skills and knowledge in the field, establishing himself as the “go-to guy” for many HVAC contractors. While he worked for a few different companies over the years, he spent a majority of his career at R.H. Austin of Brockton and Ellsworth Supply of Dorchester. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, tending to his garden, listening to country and bluegrass music, driving his 1942 Mercury, engaging in spirited political debates, or simply relaxing on his porch while listening to a baseball game on the radio. While these are just a few of things he enjoyed, what brought him the greatest joy was the love and companionship of his wife, spending time with family and friends, and reading the Bible. As a steadfast Christian, he faced the challenges of his illness head-on, relying on his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was his unwavering faith that made the challenges ALS presented more bearable for him, and which brings comfort to those he left behind. Visiting Hours will be held Thursday March 10th from 5-8:00 pm at The Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Rt. 58) Carver.
