Obituary of Donald R. Whitney

Donald R. Whitney, of Carver, died on Thursday, February 11, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 71.
Donald was born on November 30, 1944, in Prince Edward Island, Canada, the son of Russell and Eva Whitney. He was the loving husband of the late Annette (Cobb) Whitney. He was brother to the late Erma Shaw and the late Nola Mackay.
Donald is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Heather Jones and Jeffery Jones of Halifax, MA, son and daughter-in-law, Paul Whitney and Joni Whitney of Bristol, NH, and daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Palma and William Palma of Weymouth, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Matthew and Meghan Jones and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Donald retired after many years working for Motorola of Mansfield. He was also a talented singer and played bass in the “Country Gentlemen Trio”. Donald was a craftsman. He especially enjoyed woodworking and painting. He made rocking horses and toys for many of the children in his family. Donald was also an avid miniature train enthusiast and created elaborate settings for his collection.
Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, from 4:00-7:30 PM, with a service starting at 7:30 PM.
Interment services will be private.
