Obituary of John Terranova

John Terranova, age 83, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Irene Terranova. Loving father of John Terranova, Jr. and Susan Bartels. Cherished grandfather of John Terranova III, Julie Wozniak, Jackie Barrett, and James Bartels. Adored Papa to his six great-grandchildren. John was born on January 28, 1932 in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. He went on to open his own barbershop on the corner of 7th and I Street in Southie, cutting hair for over 42 years. He and his wife Irene, built a house in Pembroke in 1970 and still reside there. He took great pride in his home making sure his lawn and garden were perfect! Spending time with his family at home is what he enjoyed most in life. John was very active. A member of the Plymouth Country Club, he was an avid golfer for many years. He ran in an impressive 26 marathons and also enjoyed skiing in the winter. Even in his 80's, he would still play tag and hide-and-seek with his great-grandchildren. He loved telling a good story and was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. Even through the difficult times, he never lost his sense of humor. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Pembroke, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 10:00 AM, followed by his funeral Mass at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan Street, Hanson, at 11:00 AM.
