Helen Lincoln (Green) Fowler, 93, a 66 year resident of Duxbury, died at home on December 14, surrounded by her loving family. She was pre-deceased by her husband Dwight Fowler. Helen was born on January 26, 1922 in Boston, the second of nine children of Robert and Dorothy Green. She grew up in Brookline, attending the public schools until she entered Boston Girls Latin School. She graduated with an A.B. cum laude from Radcliffe College in 1943. She was trained as a code breaker of German top secret messages. During the 1950s and 1960s. Helen was kept busy raising her four children while acting as secretary for the Fowler family medical practice. While her two younger children were still at home, she worked at the Duxbury Free Library and Duxbury Middle School Library. She simultaneously studied for and received a Masters degree from the Simmons College School of Library Science. She worked at Wheelock College Library until she was 75 years old, where she mentored many young women . Helen was very proud of her home on Cove St., where she lived since purchasing the home in 1949. She was an active member of the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society and St. John the Evangelist Church, where she volunteered for the Altar Guild and the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Duxbury Garden Club, the Duxbury Yacht Club and various book groups. She was an avid reader, a master knitter, and greatly enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Helen is survived by her daughter Helen L. Fowler of Duxbury, Alison D'Angelo and her husband who is pre-deceased Joseph D'Angelo of Wellesley. Dwight and his wife Joyce Fowler of Kingston and Ariel Hamlin of Franklin. She was the loving grandmother to Christopher and Sarah Kemball , Eric and Nathan Fowler, and Andrew and Kimberly Hamlin. She also leaves her great grandchildren Joshua and Hannah Kemball and her siblings Dorothy Darling, Phyllis Baker, Ariel Tose, Galen Green and Winslow Green. She leaves many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 410 Washington St. Duxbury at 10:00AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers , contributions can be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Circle, # 326, Plymouth, MA 02360 or the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society at 479, Washington St, Duxbury, MA 02332.
