Obituary of Valerie A. Kroon

Valerie A. Kroon, 80, of Pembroke, MA, passed away November 8, 2015. Wife of the late Robert W. Kroon. She is survived by her children Marilyn Kingman and her husband Stephen of Plymouth, MA, Robert Kroon and his wife Ann of Pembroke, MA, Karen Harris and her husband David of Chicago, IL, Steve Kroon and his wife Kathleen of Pembroke,MA. She is the sister to the late Nancy Jacobs, Marilyn Jacobs and her husband Frank "Ted" Crowley of Quincy, MA, William Jacobs and life partner Judy Huskins of Westwood, MA, Florence Halligan of California. She was the devoted grandmother to Tiffany and Jessica Kingman, Stacey Kroon, Erica McGhee, Joseph, Thomas, Caroline and Conor Kroon, Samantha and Alexandra Harris and the great-grandmother to Greyson Kroon. Valerie was born on April 23, 1935 in Boston, MA to her parents, the late William and Lydia Jacobs. She was a Weather assistant at LaGuardia Airport in NY, she also worked for Jordan Marsh Co, waitressed at Bobby Hacketts and Mrs. Dee's among other restaurants and was a Licensed Social Worker. Valerie loved to travel. She was the former writer for the Pembroke Mariner and other local publications. She was a long term member of the Pembroke Housing Authority. She was a frequent participant and former award winner for photography at the Pembroke Arts festival. She was a long term booster, and did press releases for Pembroke Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps. After raising 4 children, Valerie returned to school in her late forties and earned her bachelor's degree at Bridgewater State College and Master's degree at Simmons College and became a Licensed Social worker. She worked for various social agencies throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Valerie was extremely independent and traveled intensively throughout the US and Europe. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St. Pembroke MA on Thursday, November 12 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A funeral Service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Friday at 10:00AM. Internment will follow at Center Cemetery in Pembroke.
