Linus Varley, “Sam”, 81, of Pembroke, and formerly of Rockland, and Hanson, passed away suddenly on November 3, 2015. He was born in S. Boston, attended Boston Latin, and other schools, and was a member of St. Vincent DePaul’s Church. He is the husband of the late Joan (Withers) Varley. He courted his young sweetheart then married. They together took trips to Hawaii, Atlantic City, New Hampshire, as well as several other locations. Most of all they enjoyed spending time with their family, which built family ties, and fulfilled their hearts. He was employed for 33 years by Trim Alloys, now Extrusion Technology as plant manager. He started at the age of 16 and worked many long, and hard hours. He retired in 1997. Sam was involved in the Rockland Youth Hockey and PM Club. He enjoyed gardening and always seemed to be able to make things grow with his green thumb. He was an avid reader and spent most of his retirement time reading James Patterson, and novels of other famous authors, while relaxing in the sun on his deck. He is survived by several children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Loving father of June Del Prete of Pembroke, Suzanne Brennan of VA, Marsha and John Murphy of Pembroke, Joanne White and Kenneth Borey of Pembroke, Scott and Debbie Varley of Plympton, and Todd Varley and Brenda of FL, and the late Linda Sullivan. Son of the late Ruth and Linus Varley, Sr. Brother of the late Ruth, Gertrude, John, and William Varley. He is also survived by more than 30 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 8th from 2-6:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke. A funeral service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral home on Monday, November 9th at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at the Center Cemetery in Pembroke.
