Obituary of John Angus Steele

John Angus Steele, Jr., of Kingston, formerly of Plymouth, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the age of 94.
A veteran of WWII, John raised a large family in Glastonbury, CT while working as a Technical Writer for 25 years at Pratt & Whitney of United Aircraft in East Hartford, CT. He owned and operated Brook Farm Nursery where he also enjoyed gardening and raising small stock animals. He moved with his family to the South Shore area in 1974 to work in a family business in Rockland and in Hingham. In the early 1980s, he also developed the Blueberry Hill Road neighborhood while living in Kingston for a short time. He retired in Plymouth and Carver where he enjoyed sailing in his boat with his wife and family. Those who knew John admired and respected not only his warmth and character, but his amazing craftsmanship restoring old homes in the area as well as building reproduction shaker style furniture. John and his wife, Barbara also devoted thousands of hours for many years as volunteer organizers of the Friends of Cranberry Hospice Festival of Trees fundraiser held at Plimoth Plantation.
John Steele leaves behind his beloved wife of 72 years, Barbara (Nolan) Steele and is the proud father of eight children; Analee M. Vallo of Southington, CT, John A. Steele III of Duxbury, Katherine Conto of Sheboygan, WI, Patricia S. Bramley of Cornwall, CT, Mary Jane Brennan of Plymouth, James K. Steele of Middlefield, CT, Michael W. Steele of Kingston and Matthew R. Steele (deceased).
John also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, his brothers, Donald Steele of Cohasset and William Steele of Waterville, NH. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and those who knew him.
A visitation period will be held at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, starting at 10:15 AM followed by his funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Boulevard, Bourne, at 1:15 PM.
