Virginia (DeCoste) Turner of Hingham, formerly of Duxbury, died at home on Saturday, October 3, at the age of 92. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude (McCarthy) and Harold DeCoste of Braintree. As a secretary at Tufts Dental School in 1947, she met a handsome dental student, Gillis K. Turner. They were married for forty-seven years until his death in 1993. Ginny was also predeceased by two daughters, Janis Turner in 1995, and Karen Turner Dexter, in 2010. Mrs. Turner is survived by her devoted daughter, Marilyn Turner of Rockland; a loving granddaughter, Amy Dexter Oliveira and her husband, Robert, of Marshfield; a grandson, William Michael Garrity IV and his wife, Susan Mai, of Boston, a step-granddaughter, Melissa Garrity Sieminski of Duxbury, and two great grandchildren, Avery and Alex Oliveira. She also leaves several cousins, and friends and acquaintances who dearly loved her. Visiting hours are omitted. Ginny’s family will honor her at a private funeral Mass at Holy Family Church in Duxbury; burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will also be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia Turner’s memory to the Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370, or to the charity of one’s choice.
