John C. Veracka, Jr., of Kingston, died on Thursday, July 2, 2015, after a short illness. He was born on May 30, 1940 in Boston, Massachusetts to John C. Veracka and Catherine V. Svagdys; dear husband of Linda M. (Hassett) Veracka; devoted father of John C. Veracka III of Kingston, Leta B. (Veracka) Areski and her husband Ihsane of Plympton and the late David A. Veracka of Kingston; doting Grandpa to Ayah Y. Areski and Sami E. Areski, both of Plympton. He also leaves a brother, Robert J. and his wife Susan Veracka of Kingston; two nieces, Pamela Dysart and her husband Tim of Indiana and Janet Veracka of Carver; two nephews, Michael Veracka and his wife Becky Chase of Westport and Christopher and his wife Tammy (Drew) Veracka of Kingston; three cousins, Joseph Svagdys and his wife Nancy, Regina Smith and Brenda Burke. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Cecily Hassett-Salley and her husband Tim; two nephews-in-law, Matthew R. Roberts and his wife Holly Monicelli and Daniel Hassett-Salley as well as a niece-in-law, Juliana Hassett-Salley and a large number of friends. A graduate of Boston English High School, John earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern and in 1971 he earned his accreditation as a Professional Engineer. John was involved in serving the town of Kingston in many capacities: a term on the Board of Selectmen; several years as a member of the Finance Committee and most recently the Capital Outlay Committee. He also served on the Police Station Building Committee, the Sewerage Advisory Committee, Reed Building Renovation Committee; served as a trustee of the Ichabod Washburn Fund, coordinator for implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act, and was the town’s handicapped commissioner. To honor John's last wishes, he has been cremated and there will be no services. Rather there will be a memorial celebration of his life at a future date.
