Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Catherine (Reid) Mavin, of Duxbury and formerly of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 15, 2015, at the age of 81. Catherine is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 63 years, George Mavin; her son Keith Mavin and his wife Jennifer; her daughter Glenda Mavin; her daughter Trudy Mavin and her husband Peter Doskoch; and her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hennessey and Graham and Evelyn Doskoch. Catherine was born and raised in Lynemouth, Northumberland, England. After high school, she worked as a pharmacy assistant and attended the local dances, which is where she met the love of her life, George. They were married in 1952 and had two children before immigrating to the United States. In 1964 they settled in Weymouth and had their third child. Catherine worked while raising her family, first at LizBen Pharmacy and then at South Shore Podiatry for 22 years. In retirement, Catherine and George started a new life chapter by moving to Duxbury. Catherine served as board secretary for the Duxbury Council on Aging and was a dedicated volunteer and staff member at the Duxbury Senior Center. Catherine was known for her style and taste, admired for her cooking and knitting skills, and appreciated for her lively personality. She enjoyed playing tennis, going to the beach, and doing word puzzles. Catherine’s life was enriched by her many cherished friendships, by her roles as doting mom and grandma, and most of all by her enduring bond with George. They shared a love of music, ballroom dancing, gardening and travel, and took special pleasure in their vacation trips to Florida and England. A funeral service will be held at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street (Route 3A), Duxbury, on Friday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends afterward at the Duxbury Senior Center. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duxbury Senior Center (Friends of the Duxbury Council on Aging, P.O. Box 2113, Duxbury, MA 02331) or to the Hospice of the South Shore (30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370). To offer condolences, please visit www.shepherdfuneralhome.com.
