Harold Thomas Akers (Tom) died unexpectedly in his home on Monday June 15, 2015 at the age of 70. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Elaine L. (Harju) Akers, a son Thomas Akers and his fiancé Kelley Foley of Millbury, Mass; a son Steven Akers and his wife Robin of Carver, Mass; 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Izabella, Samantha, Jenea and Lillian; several nieces, great nieces, great nephews and his mother in law Lillian Harju of Carver, Mass. He is predeceased by his parents Harold P. and Marjorie A.(Lynch) Akers and his siblings Dennis P., Daniel C., Mary Ellen and James F. He was born on April 27, 1945 in Boston, Mass., and was a lifelong Middleboro, Mass., resident. He graduated from Middleboro Memorial High School Class of 1963. He served as an Auto Mechanic in the US Army stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA and Fort Devens, Mass. He married the love of his life Elaine onJanuary 20, 1968. Through the years he has worked for Gillette, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Foxboro Company, Codex, E & W Harju Cranberries and was most recently employed for years as an Office Manager of Winnetuxet Cranberry Corp. Tom enjoyed gardening, had a large passion for fishing, loved his Celtics and adored all of his pets through the years which included dogs and several cats. He most recently was able to go back to his favorite fishing spot, Marathon, Florida along with his wife for a month long vacation. Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor, love for his family, for being a man with a huge heart, even though he liked to appear tough, we all knew he was a soft and kind man. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his amazing love for his wife. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday June 25 from 4:00 to 5:00PM with a service at 5:00PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home at 116 Main St Carver, Mass. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to It’s All About the Animals Inc. 103 Marion Road Rochester, MA 02770
