Joseph Brinsley O’Kane, Jr., 73, died Friday, April 24th at his home in Carver after a long illness. Joe was born and raised in South Weymouth where he graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He received his undergraduate degree in Education at Stonehill College and his Masters in Education at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Joe had a rewarding career as a classroom teacher in the towns of Weymouth, Holbrook and Acushnet. In order to better serve the whole school community, Joe earned a Certificate After Graduation Studies in Guidance and Administration fromBridgewater State University. After over 30 years in education, he retired in 2001. Joe grew up playing baseball on town teams. For almost a decade, he devoted his spare time to the Weymouth Babe Ruth League. He served as a team manager and league Vice- President. Joe’s love of ‘the game’ on all levels made him an expert in baseball facts and trivia. Joe enjoyed studying history and travel. Joe was the devoted husband of 32 years to his wife Patricia Ann (Cox) O’Kane of Carver. He was the son of the late Weymouth Police Chief Joseph B. O’Kane and Helen L. (Halligan) O’Kane. Mr. O’Kane is survived by his sisters, Mary Bernadette O’Brien and her husband Robert of Hanson, Helen L. Curran of Barnstable and her late husband Michael and his brothers John A. O’Kane of Boston and Edward B. O’Kane and his wife Deborah of Kingston. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 27th from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Carver. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Carver. Interment will be private In lieu of flowers, please send your donation to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
