William Fries, Jr, 88, of Halifax, passed away on March 3, 2015. Born July 11, 1926 in Brockton, he was the son of the late William Fries, Sr. and Anna M. (Basler) Fries. Mr. Fries had previously resided in Pembroke, and Kingston. Mr. Fries was raised in Kingston and attended schools there. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy in the Pacific on the USS Bellgrove. After the war, Mr. Fries was a police officer in the towns of Plymouth and Carver, later becoming a Identification Officer with Plymouth County BCI, before retiring in 1984. He also worked many years as a machinist at F. H. Peterson in Stoughton. In retirement he worked at the Pembroke, and Halifax country clubs. His hobbies included playing golf and building radio controlled airplane models. Mr. Fries received his pilots license at Brockton Airport in 1950 under the GI Bill.
Beloved husband of the late Marcia (Gillis) Fries. He is survived by his three step children; Jeanne McDaniel of Charleston, SC, Lisa Nugent of Ft. Davis, TX, and David Whitney of Taunton as well as his four step-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 11th from 4-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (rt. 106) Kingston. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
