Obituary of John M. Cardia

John M. Cardia, a long time resident of Quincy, and most recently Vassalboro, Maine passed peacefully November 27, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Boston in 1920, he was the sixth of eight born to Rosario and Rosaria Cardia and is survived by his brother Peter Cardia of Brighton, sister Frances M. Flaherty of Lynn and sister in law Ann Cardia of Quincy. He is predeceased by sisters and brothers Conchetta (Mamie) DeDominici, Jenny Cardia, Anthony (Nino) Cardia, Santa Floridia, Salvatore Cardiaand uncle of the late Joseph DeDominici. He was predeceased by longtime companion Grace Mills of Boston, and recently Ruth Priest of Maine. He is survived and much loved by his 15 nieces and nephews who all watched over and cared for him in his later years. He is the beloved “Uncle John” to 21 grandnieces and nephews and a growing number of great grandnieces and nephews. He was a WWII veteran of US Air force and fought courageously as a B17 rear gunner. He was a retiree of the Boston public school system. He was the very definition of a great guy, witty, and oh so humorous. Uncle John may have been small in stature but lived life large. He has left a large hole in many hearts. Funeral Services will be held at Shepherd funeral home 216 Main Street (Rt. 106) Kingston, on Saturday December 6th at 9:00 am. A mass in celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Evergreen Cemetery 233 College Ave. Brighton, MA.
