Obituary of Charles Joseph Lane

Charles Joseph Lane, of Duxbury, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014, with the love of his life, Jeanne, his wife of 62 years by his side. The love of his large family and many friends surrounded him through his last days. Mr. Lane was born in Dedham on August 5, 1932. A graduate of Dedham High School, he also served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1952, as an airplane mechanic. Mr. Lane was employed by Sigma Instruments for many years and also worked for Hood Laboratories. Most recently, he worked for Technical Products of Georgia as an inventor of Medical Devices. Charlie married Jeanne Rudd on July 3, 1952, in Boston. They had nine children together. Their rambunctious household included five sons and four daughters. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Stephen Lane of Wareham and Bradley Lane & his wife Sharon of Kingston; four daughters, Brenda Botelho & her husband Kenny of Rehoboth, Cathy Whitley of Plymouth, Donna Carlson of Marshfield and Bonnie Lane of Plymouth. He was pre-deceased by his sons, Vernon, Randall and Mark. Charlie was the proud Grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lane also leaves a brother, James Lane of Connecticut; two sisters, Dorothy Morrison of Abington and Marjorie Shepherd of Dedham. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers, John Lane, Donald Lane and a sister, Irene Rangel. He also leaves his dear friend of many years, John McCarthy. The Lane Family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and all who provided care at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for the excellent care and many kindnesses extended to Charlie and the family during these difficult days. Special thanks to his Doctor and friend, Eric Johnson, who liked to refer to him as "the mad scientist". A visitation period will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, November 20, 2014, from 9:30-11:00 AM, with a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Mayflower Cemetery, Tremont Street, Duxbury. Donations in Charlie's memory may be made to the Children's Tumor Foundation, 120 Wall Street, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10005-3904.
