Sr. Bernadette Chapin, C.D.P., 67, of Kingston, died on October 17, 2014. Daughter of Stanley E. and Ida G. (Bissonnette) Chapin. Baptized Bonita Mae, she was one of four children. She had three brothers, William, Michael, and Paul. Bonnie, as she was called by her family, attended grade school in Weymouth, and Abington. In 1960 she began her high school years as a resident student at Sacred Heart High School in Kingston where she took the name Bernadette. After completing the novitiate, she went on to continue her undergraduate work. She then moved into the ministry of education, teaching at elementary schools in Stamford, CT, and Kingston. She was a creative and energetic leader, always involving the students in special projects. Alongside her teaching she was a Girl Scout leader, who worked tirelessly for her troop. In the 1980's she fulfilled her life long dream to become a Registered Nurse. Sr. Bernadette ministered as a nurse briefly in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and with a number of different hospitals with the VNA. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 19th at the Providence House, 363 Bishop's Highway, Kingston from 2-5 and 6-7:30PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 20th at 4:00 PM at the Providence House, Kingston. Interment will be in Our Lady of Divine Providence cemetery, Kingston. Donations may be made in Sr. Chapin's memory to the Sisters of the Divine Providence, 363 Bishop's Highway, Kingston, MA 02364.
