Gilbert C. Farrar, 88, of Pembroke, died October 12. He was the beloved husband of 67 years of Virginia (Pennell) Farrar. Son of the late Gilbert and Emma (Nicholson) Farrar. Loving father of Susan and her husband Gary of Gallup, NM, Cynthia and her husband Arthur Borden of Carver, and Debra and her husband Christopher Batson of Plympton. Brother of Barbara McInnes of Haverhill and the late Martha McCarthy and Christine Farrar. Cherished grandfather of Cady Menzies of El Paso, TX, Brian Erickson and Robb Erickson, both of Colorado Springs, CO, Joshua Borden of Taunton, Amy Hall of Billings, MT, Rebekah Jentes of Broomhall, PA, Heather Batson of Philadelphia, PA, and Jennifer Batson of Plymouth, and two great grandchildren Noah and Evan Menzies. Gilbert was raised in Danvers, MA. He has resided in Pembroke for the past 57 years. He served in the US Navy as Electrician's Mate, Second Class during WWII. He then graduated from Northeastern University in 1951 as a chemical engineer. Gilbert was employed as a technical director at American Sandpaper, later named Clipper Abrasives for 27 years, and retiring from National Coating after 9 years. Visiting hours from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St., on Friday October 17 at 10:00AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Interment in Center Cemetery, Pembroke. Donations in Gilbert's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl. New York, N.Y. 10001.
