Pauline Hansen-MacDonald-Gately passed away peacefully in her home, per her wishes on Sunday morning September 7, 2014. She had just celebrated her 85th Birthday with her loving family and friends. Pauline was born on August 12, 1929 in Ord, Nebraska, the youngest of 5 children of late parents Dagny Olivia (Tideman) Hansen (from Sweden) and Henry Peter Hansen (from Denmark). That same year the Hansen family moved to Omaha, Nebraska and 11 years later relocated to Malden, Massachusetts. Pauline is loving sister to Eleanor Mae (Hansen) Gatti of Kingston and proceeded in death by her sister and two bothers Thelma Alice (Hansen)Turner, Harold Tideman Hansen, and Norman Roy Hansen. Pauline attended Browne Junior High School and graduated Malden High School, Class of 1947. She worked at Kennedy's clothing store in downtown Boston as Assistant Credit Manager after high school, attended Hickox Secretarial School and was later employed by the Equitable Assurance Society. On September 23, 1950 Pauline married Roderick C. MacDonald (of Roxbury) and had 2 sons: Roderick C. III and David Bruce. The family lived in Everett, MA before buying their home in Maplewood area of Malden in 1962 where both children attended Malden schools and Pauline became Church School Superintendant at Christ Methodist Church. Pauline's son David (10yrs) died August 20, 1965, husband Rod died August 18, 1969 and son Roddy (59yrs) died February 20, 2012. On returning to the business world, Pauline was employed by Saffier, Schindler, Lerner in Boston and later worked 5 years for the Downing & Desautels Agency of New England Life Insurance Co. She has also enjoyed lots of travel - visiting San Francisco, New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Dallas, Bermuda, Stockholm and more. Over the years Pauline has been active knitting, sewing, embroidering, bowling and golfing and participating in many community activities and events. Pauline married Thomas H. Gately of Braintree, MA in March, 1978 and became mother to his 5 children. Tom and Pauline moved to WaterView Village in Carver, MA in September, 1994. Tom passed away in January, 1996. Pauline is Nana to 7 grandchildren. Pauline is loving Mother to William Gately & his wife Linda of Holbrook, Linda Tidwell & her late husband Edward of Quincy, Robert Gately of Braintree, Brian Gately & his wife Lisa of Pembroke and Kathleen Belcher & her husband Thomas of Plymouth; loving Nana to Jeffrey & David Tidwell; Kevin & Amanda Gately; Katelyn, Emily & Tommy Belcher. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. And not to forget her loving and devoted dog Chloe. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 11th from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt. 58) Carver. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12th at 10:00 AM, at the Shepherd Funeral Home. Interment will be at Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
