Obituary of Paul B. O'Brien

Paul B. O’Brien, age 77, of Kingston, formerly of Weymouth and Falmouth, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family. Born in East Boston, he was a retired employee of the Boston Globe Newspaper Company, with a career spanning 47 years culminating in his role as Superintendent of the Pressroom. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with his colleagues and a passion for the newspaper industry. He was instrumental in the opening of the Globe Billerica Plant while an Assistant Foreman. He was a member of the Boston Newspaper Printing Pressmen’s Union No. 3 and a Charter Member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed his church and civic activism. He was also a past member of the Braintree Yacht Club and enjoyed boating and spending time on Cape Cod. He was a true family man and cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren and all his family and friends through the years. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Margaret; his daughters, Elizabeth Daugherty of Derry, New Hampshire and Paula Haite of Kingston, as well as sons-in-law, Michael Daugherty and Lawrence Haite. He was much loved by his grandchildren, Jared, Ryan and Matthew Haite and Michael Daugherty, Jr. Paul was the brother of three deceased brothers; Francis, Joseph and Robert O’Brien and shared memorable occasions with family. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass which will be held at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 10:00 AM. Interment services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Green Street, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. O’Brien’s memory to the Boston Higashi School, 800 North Main Street, Randolph, MA 02368 or to Cranberry Hospice, Inc., 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
