Valerie (Kearney) (Silva) Heneghan, age 58, on June 18, 2014, Valerie entered the gates of Heaven after fighting, and winning, her battle with Leukemia (AML) for 10 months. Valerie died peacefully, on her own terms, at home, with many of her family members present. She is survived by her husband of nearly 14 years, Brian P. Heneghan, whose devotion and strength was what Val always said was her “rock.” She is also survived by her children, Matthew Silva and Adam Silva (Halifax, MA), and her two step-children, Shannon Jutras and her husband Philip (Foster, RI) and John P. Heneghan (New York, NY). She also leaves behind her mother, Valerie Kearney (E. Bridgewater), her sisters, Susan Zaleznick (and husband, Edward)(Norton, MA)and Eileen Cardella (So. Easton, MA), and her brother, Thomas Kearney (and wife, Margaret) (Brockton, MA) and several nieces and nephews. Born on May 4, 1956, Valerie was the daughter of Thomas (late) and Valerie Kearney. She was the former wife of James Silva (Abington). Valerie was born and raised in Brockton, MA. She was a graduate of Brockton High School as well as the South Easton Dental Assistant School. At the time of her diagnosis, she was a dental assistant for Holly Tree Dental of Hanover, MA where she made many wonderful friends. Valerie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and step-parent. She was beautiful, intelligent, energetic, fun-loving, and generous. She was grateful for the efforts of her doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, through whose efforts her life was extended, and for the hospice services of Norwell VNA, whose caring and dedication allowed her to remain at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, (Route 14), Pembroke, MA, on Monday, June 23, 2014, from 3:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Pembroke, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 8:00 AM, followed by her funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, (Route 58), Halifax, at 9:00 AM. Interment services will be private. Donations may be made in Valerie’s name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, www.dana-farber.org
