Obituary of Dorothy J. Wiggins

Dorothy J. (Adams) Wiggins, of Kingston, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was 91. The beloved wife of 64 years to the late Delmer P. Wiggins of Halifax, she was the loving mother of 6 children; William R. Wiggins of Worcester, Dorothy J. (Wiggins) Chella and her husband Roger of Weymouth, Shirley D. Wiggins of Weymouth, Edward P. Wiggins of Quincy, Linda E. (Wiggins) Gavin of Hull, and Debra E. (Wiggins) Scollins and her husband Dennis of Marshfield. Devoted grandmother to 8 grandchildren; Robert J. Chella of South Boston, Michel M. (Chella) Claudio and her husband Anthony of Bluffton, SC, Dennis M. Scollins, Jr., Robert F. Scollins, Kathleen R. Scollins, Eileen M. Scollins, and Michael J. Scollins all of Marshfield, and Katelyn Gavin of Hull; and great grandmother to 2 great grandchildren Michael Claudio and Sophia Claudio of Bluffton, SC. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother. Born on October 16, 1922, she survived the great depression and World War II. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Adams of Somerville and one of 14 children. She graduated from the Somerville High School in 1940 and was a member of the Glee Club. She enjoyed tap dancing, reading, skating, and swimming. In 1946, she met and married her husband Delmer and they raised 6 children. She worked several jobs during her lifetime including sales, photography, and restaurant wait staff. No matter what position she worked, she always had the upmost respect and admiration of her co-workers and supervisors. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Weymouth and a board member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a member and faithful parishioner of the Calvary Baptist Church in Hanson, MA, participating in the choir and sunshine committee. She enjoyed writing get well cards to shut ins and was a source of comfort and inspiration to everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed. Dorothy’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the Care given to Dorothy at Wingate at Silver Lake over the past 10 ½ years and especially in the final days of her life, they would also like to acknowledge Cranberry Hospice for their exceptional and devoted care and kindness.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 5th from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke. A funeral service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 429 Monponsett St, Hanson,on Friday, June 6th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Village Cemetery in Weymouth.
