Obituary of Joan Adele Neary
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Adele (Griffiths) Neary, born August 22 1938 in Coonrod, NY, passed away to join our Heavenly Father surrounded by those who loved her on January 29th 2014.
In the 1970’s Joan became a welder at the General Dynamics, Quincy Shipyard. She wore many hats there and retired from the MWRA as a Security Officer at the former Quincy Shipyard in 1997. After retirement she worked as Mental Health Associate at Pembroke Hospital, and most recently she worked as a Security Guard at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth.
Each morning she enjoyed starting her day off with a cup of coffee in the company of her family. In the summer Joan enjoyed traveling to the family land in upstate New York to spend time with her sisters, brothers, and many other extended family & friends. There, riding recreational vehicles, swimming at the old swimming hole, and sitting around the campfire relaxing with her loving family and friends were always her favorite times.
A passion/hobbie for Joan was riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle. She shared this passion with her husband Nishan, her children, and grandchildren, and enjoyed many wonderful times riding with them.
One of her life-long goals was achieved in 2002 when she traveled to her paternal homeland of Wales accompanied by her sister Joyce. She also enjoyed trips to France, England, Wales, Iceland, Belgium and a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway with her husband Nishan.
Joan’s adventurous and charismatic spirit began in her early years in rural upstate NY where she had a passion for riding horses. She performed in many rodeos as a skilled trick-rider, and spent most of her youth riding and caring for horses.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Nishan Jafferian; her sisters Joyce (Griffiths) Paluda, and Beatrice (Griffiths) Michik; her Brothers Claude Griffiths and his wife Joyce Marie, John Griffiths, and Michael Sturbin and his wife Carol. Her In-law’s Doris Jafferian, and Andrea and John Marchand. She was the loving mother of William Neary and his wife Donna, Amy (Neary) Townsend and her husband Jon, Shawn Neary and his wife Kim, and Russ Neary and his wife Mary Ellen. Stepmother to David Jafferian and his wife Melody, Michael Jafferian and his wife Linda, and Dean Jafferian and his wife Sue. Her grandchildren; Travis Townsend and his wife Angela; Brooke Townsend and her husband Sean Corcoran; Alexander Neary; David and Dakota Neary; Sara, Amy, and Mya Neary; Jasper and Preston Jafferian; Lucas, Richard, and Cheyanne Jafferian; Skye and Amber Jafferian. Her great grandchildren; Mercedes and Anthony Townsend, Brayden and Brooklyn Neary, and Aliva Jafferian. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends that she called family.
