Joseph A. Govoni, passed away peacefully at the age of 84, in his Plympton home on the morning of Sunday, November 30, 2013. "Brother" was born January 14, 1929, in Kingston, MA, the son of Ralph A. & Sylvia (Wood) Govoni and brother of Ralph Govoni, Jr. He served as an MP in the United State Army where he was a featured soloist in the Army Mens Chorus. Joe was a classically trained tenor who sang for events at Saint Joseph's Church in Kingston for many years, as well as being involved in the Brockton Harmoneers Barbershop Chorus and the Old Colony Choral Society. He was the proprietor of Sunshine Stores in Kingston for over 30 years and very involved in the town of Kingston. Joe and his wife, Claire, volunteered for many years at the Evanswood Nursing Home entertaining the residents. He enjoyed singing, tennis, cooking, grocery shopping, but most of all loved spending time with his family, especially Sunday night dinners at his Plympton home, a tradition that started with his parents over 60 years ago. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Claire A. (Borghesani) of Plympton; sons, Ronald of Easton, Kevin of Plympton, Gary of Cranston, RI and Dana of Plympton. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at 9:00 AM. Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Suite 745, Boston, MA 02215.
