Gary was our friendly and gifted neighbor who always had a smile. He seemed a permanent fixture who would always be creating in the large room overlooking a wonderful view of brook, pond and wildlife which he loved. We will sadly miss his presence.

Being a "girl" I wasn't as close to Gary as my brothers were, but he spent a lot of time with my family when he was young probably because of the fishing and hunting with my dad when we lived in Sanbornville, N.H. Then later on, when Laurie, Linda, and Jamie were very young, I lived in Pembroke and the Friday night Fishfrys at Gary & Ginny's in Hanson were THE place to be, featuring catfish, frog legs he caught along with lotsa beer. Later on, he and Florence had some really great cookouts with the whole family and friends. He was quite a guy and I have many fond memories of him.

I have such great memories of spending time with the Murdock family in Hanson on Saturday nights. My dad Dave spent a lot of time with Gary hunting. I remember all of the kids especially Laurie who was my age singing with Gary playing the guitar. The song Wolverton Mountain sticks in my head as one of Gary's favorites. We always loved to sing along with him. He was a kind and fun person. I am so sorry to hear about his passing.

If the description “one of a kind” applies to any man, it fits my close cousin Gary perfectly. Being a couple of years his senior (in age only!), I’ve known Gary all of his life and been in a position to observe how he adapted to circumstances while always showing his love for wildlife as expressed in his paintings and carvings. His home on the South Shore with Virginia and their four daughters, was a favorite destination for family enjoyment. Much later, with Florence and their daughter, in their historic house and property in Plympton, Gary’s role as dad to all was no less than remarkable. And let me say, finally, that I have not known Gary to show more than annoyance even when downright anger would be warranted. That says a lot about his character. Here’s to you, old man.

I will always remember Gary as my cousin of course, but even more as a lifelong best friend. We enjoyed many happy times together, both when I was a kid, and all the way into the last decade. There is just no way to describe how much I will miss him...
