Robert J, (Bob) MacNeil of Kingston, formerly of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at age 92 at the Jordan Hospital of congestive heart failure with Pastor John Dale of Mayflower Congregational Church by his side. Robert passed on November 9, 2013 on his second day in the hospital and after a lengthy illness. Robert was born in Weymouth, eldest of 8 children to Oliver and Annie ( Bumpus) MacNeil, of Weymouth on October 28, 1921. Robert was the loving brother of deceased siblings, Russell, Richard, Kenneth and Dorothy (MacNeil) Hardman as well as surviving brothers George and his wife Jean of Weymouth, sister Ethel (MacNeil) Sherman of S. Yarmouth and husband David and brother Alan MacNeil of Weymouth. Robert was the beloved husband of Mildred ( Fullington ) MacNeil of Kingston and loving father of Linda MacNeil Werner of Las Vegas, NV. Robert served 27 years on the Weymouth Fire Department. He spent 12 years as an engine driver and 15 years as the dispatcher. He put his all into his job. He was an avid baseball fan of our winning Red Sox and never forgot his pleasure of watching Bobby Orr and all those great old time team players of the Boston Bruins. Bob enjoyed gardening; he grew delicious tomatoes, liked bird watching and was very interested in weather related gadgets. One of his favorite pastimes was doing crossword puzzles. When Bob and his brothers got together hilarity reigned, they were a group of jokesters. A word from his wife, quoting his favorite song “ I don’t want to live in a world without love and love without you, I’ll never change and give you my word” Visiting hours will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 10:30am to 12:00pm at The Shepherd Funeral Home 216 Main St, Kingston MA. Followed by a burial at The Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church, Main St, Kingston.
