Barbara Clare (McGuane) Richards, passed away on November 4, 2013 at the age of 85, after a long illness. Daughter of the late Joseph F. and Ann E. (Woods) McGuane, she grew up in Whitman, MA and then was a lifetime resident of Pembroke, MA with her husband, Arthur F. Richards, Jr., who passed in 1992. She was a much beloved mother, aunt, in-law, neighbor, and friend to everyone in her life. Her sense of humor was legendary. Even those who knew her only briefly remarked on her quick wit and resiliency in the face of everyday life. A long time fixture at Center Pharmacy in Pembroke, she greeted customers by name and with a smile. In semi-retirement, she was a hostess at Pembroke’s landmark Bobby Hackett’s restaurant. She always enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her five children; Kathleen (Norian) of Plymouth, William and his wife, Rosemary of Rockland, Mark and his wife, Marcia of Plympton, Christine (Fogarty) and her husband, Thomas of Cohasset and Janice and her husband, Joseph Federl of Pembroke; and ten grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many, many wonderful friends. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, (Route 14), Pembroke, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Pembroke, on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 9:00 AM followed by her funeral Mass at Saint Thecla’s Church, 145 Washington Street, (Route 53), Pembroke at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mattakeesett Street, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
