I was saddened to hear about Neil. I worked at DCAM and recently toured to see my friends there. Neil was one of my best work friends, with a kind and helpful word, a joke, a grin, and a clear and open mind. I know that he was planning to retire soon and that your welfare was never far from his mind. I will miss his presence on this planet, and I send my deepest sympathy for your great loss.

I have worked in the same agency as Neil for over 25 years, and started working for him within the last 1+ years. It is rare that you find a person who is respected and well liked by everyone. Neil was that kind of guy. We recently figured out that we had a mutually loved vacation spot, Abaco. If I hit the lottery, we were all going to escape there! Be happy and remember the good things because Neil was about everyone else being content.

My heartfelt condolences to the Johnson family, it is with grain of salt that I’m sending the Johnson family this note. I must say, when I was abruptly informed of the passing of Neil on Monday, June 10, 2013 by my Director Michael Lambert, my immediate reply was, “our Neil Johnson” of which he said, “Yes Frank, our Neil Johnson”. To think that I’ve known Neil for only a short 9 months period, mourning his lost is so horrific; in contrast, I cannot begin to imagine or quantify the loss of those who’ve known him intimately. It is extremely difficult for me to comprehend how this very past Friday we’re exchanging words regarding the abundant amount of rains we’re experiencing in the Northeast on his way home that evening; whereas he suddenly forgot his umbrella and I’m watching him going back to his office to retrieve his umbrella with his L.L. Bean monogram backpack! He could almost past for a 21 years old college student that evening. The Johnson’s family are in my thoughts and prayers; I pray that GOD brings you comfort in this challenging period individually.
God Bless you all,
Frank Vilbrun

In the seven years that I've known Neil at DCAM he's always been the exemplar of a public professional, a community man, and a family man. It's almost impossible to believe that he's suddenly gone. He'll be sorely missed by many. All best wishes to his family as you treasure the many good memories he left you.

God Bless you Pam and Heather, Will, Molly and everyone else who knew this quiet, gentle, and loving man named Neil. He will be missed. He will be remembered. To the family and friends of Neil Johnson:
I have had the pleasure of working alongside Neil since 2009; I always found him to be a thoughtful, introspective, knowledgeable and kind person - all qualities that I admire. I will miss having him as a resource in the office and I can only imagine how difficult it is to lose him so close to retirement and on the cusp of being able to focus his full attention and time on the people who meant the most to him - his family and close friends.
I wish you all the best in what must undoubtedly be a difficult time and please know that my thoughts are with you and that like you, I will miss having Neil around. The world is certainly an emptier place without him in it, but if we keep him in our memories and hearts, perhaps it doesn't have to be so empty going forward. All the best to all of you.
