To the entire Maddock Family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of one of my all-time favorites, 'Little Hal'. I can't recall him ever raising his voice, even when 'Big Hal' and his friends would give him plenty of cause. With deepest sympathy, Marty & Paula Connolly

It was August 2011, I had returned home from surgery and two days had passed. I went out to get some sea air and there was a rose plant on my porch. For days I asked fellow Villager’s if they knew who had left it and no one seemed to know. Another day passed and again I was sitting on my porch, the rose bush now appropriately planted in my garden, placed beside my angel statue. Harold approached me with his sparkling eyes and a little shy grin. He noticed the rose bush and I asked, do you know who it came from? His smile grew bigger and I said “Oh it was you” and indeed it was. A couple of days later, he again stopped by to check on me…this time he carried a book “Chicken Soup for the Soul”…he explained that there were many lovely stories in the book and that it would help me get through my recovery….as it had helped him get through the loss of his beloved wife. Needless to say, his acts of kindness and concern gave Harold a very special place in my heart. I will miss our little talks, his smile and his words of encouragement. The Village will not be the same without his huge heart and sincere kindness. His rose bush will forever remain beside my angel and whenever a rose blooms I will be reminded of him and his smile. Heaven truly has received a wonderful Angel.

Dear Maddock Cousins - You have all my sympathy. I have such happy memories of Uncle Hal -- the rides on his boat (including my first attempt to waterski - a complete failure), the stories he would tell, his laugh, his (and your mom's) incredibly generous hospitality, the fun visits with him in childhood and adulthood. I just wish I lived closer and knew him better. What a great guy! I know you will miss him very much, and my heart goes out to all of you. --Joanie
