Obituary of Joan Boyce Ferguson

Joan Boyce Ferguson, of Duxbury, formerly of East Liverpool, OH, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 14th. Born January 24, 1931 in New Brunswick, NJ, to Milton Harry Boyce and Alice (DeNault) Boyce, Joan was raised in Highland Park, NJ. She was a graduate of Highland Park High School and the Washington School for Secretaries. In 1951, she married D. Robert Ferguson III, celebrating 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 2004. Joan raised her 4 children in East Liverpool, OH, until 1971 when the family then moved to Duxbury. Outside of winters in Boca Raton, FL, she lived the rest of her life in Duxbury as an active member of The First Baptist Church of Duxbury and as a volunteer of the Duxbury Thrift Shop with 4 years spent as its president. In later years Joan developed a talent for oil painting both for personal pleasure as well as for the enjoyment of friends and family members who were gifted with her art. Joan was just as proud of her family that preceded her as she was her family that followed her. Her grandfather, Louis DeNault, worked for Thomas E. Edison on developing the phonograph in Edison, NJ. Surviving Joan are her loving children: Catherine F. Ford and her husband Patrick of Brookline, NH, Barbara J. Ferguson of Sandwich, MA, D. Robert Ferguson IV of Rockland, MA and Thomas B. Ferguson and his wife Jill of Rockland, MA; her grandchildren: Evan and Courtney Ford, Kristen, Kyle and Kevin Garrity, D. Robert Ferguson V, Timothy, Morgan and Sydney Ferguson; and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Anita B. Ferguson of Lauderdale by the Sea, FL and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 20th, from 5-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 21st at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 2 Tremont St, Duxbury. Interment will be at the MA National Cemetery at 2:30 PM. Memorial donations may be made to The First Baptist Church of Duxbury Memorial Fund, PO Box, AO, Duxbury, MA 02331, or the charity of one’s choice.
