Joan Boyce Ferguson, of Duxbury, formerly of East Liverpool, OH, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 14th. Born January 24, 1931 in New Brunswick, NJ, to Milton Harry Boyce and Alice (DeNault) Boyce, Joan was raised in Highland Park, NJ. She was a graduate of Highland Park High School and the Washington School for Secretaries. In 1951, she married D. Robert Ferguson III, celebrating 53 years of marriage prior to his death in 2004. Joan raised her 4 children in East Liverpool, OH, until 1971 when the family then moved to Duxbury. Outside of winters in Boca Raton, FL, she lived the rest of her life in Duxbury as an active member of The First Baptist Church of Duxbury and as a volunteer of the Duxbury Thrift Shop with 4 years spent as its president. In later years Joan developed a talent for oil painting both for personal pleasure as well as for the enjoyment of friends and family members who were gifted with her art.
Joan was just as proud of her family that preceded her as she was her family that followed her. Her grandfather, Louis DeNault, worked for Thomas E. Edison on developing the phonograph in Edison, NJ.
Surviving Joan are her loving children: Catherine F. Ford and her husband Patrick of
Brookline, NH, Barbara J. Ferguson of Sandwich, MA, D. Robert Ferguson IV of Rockland, MA and Thomas B. Ferguson and his wife Jill of Rockland, MA; her grandchildren: Evan and Courtney Ford, Kristen, Kyle and Kevin Garrity, D.
