David W. Gfroerer, age 84, a long time resident of Halifax, died on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Rudolph & Margaret (Lapworth) Gfroerer. David attended the Walter Hervey College in NY and joined the US Army during the Korean Conflict, where he met his wife, Joyce Parnell Gfroerer at Ft. Eustes, VA. He worked at Hanover Shoe in Boston, The Silver Lake High School in Kingston, The Halifax Garden Company and retired from Winthrop Atkins in 1990. David enjoyed the company of friends and family, boating, camping and riding motorcycles. David was the beloved husband to Joyce for 59 years; devoted father of Donald Gfroerer & his wife Laurene of Wareham, Jo-Anne Bosworth & her husband Henry of Halifax, the late Jeffrey Gfroerer & his surviving wife Ruthanne Gfroerer Donovan; loving grandfather of Shawn Gfroerer, Heidi Navarro & her husband Davi, Megan Gfroerer and Jacob Gfroerer; dear brother of the late Daniel Russell Gfroerer and Helen-Carol Gfroerer and dear uncle of Susan Berta and Judy Matsuda and Carol Hazard. Memorial services will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Saturday, August 18 at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at the Central Cemetery, Hemlock Lane, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the Halifax Congregational Church, 503 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338, the Halifax Fire Department, 438 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338 (please make check payable to: The Town of Halifax; on memo line, please indicate Ambulance Gifts), or to the charity of your choice.
