Frank B. Hill, 92, resident of Pembroke, formerly of Wollaston, MA, died August 7, 2012, following a period of declining health. He was born in Calais, ME, then moved to Boston where he met his devoted wife of 68 years, Mary A. (Garofalo) Hill. He was the devoted father of Nancy A. Solomon of Pembroke and David F. Hill and companion Elaine Thompson also of Pembroke. He was the loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Frank was an avid deer hunter while growing up in Maine. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those who knew him will always remember his stories about Maine and also about his many experiences while in the Army. Frank served in the US Army during WW II as a medic for the 26th Special Mobile Medical Unit in Merauke, Dutch New Guinea from 1942 - 1944. His rank was Technician 5th grade Corporal. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 3 bronze stars and the Purple Heart. Frank was very proud to serve his country. Frank worked as a hardware salesman for Sears Roebuck & Co. in Quincy for 20 years. After retiring Frank and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling to Europe, driving across the US in their RV and spending many winters in Florida with their dear friends. Memorial visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, (Route 14), Pembroke, on Monday, August 13, from 3:00-7:00 PM, followed by a memorial prayer service at 7:15 PM. Interment at the Centre Cemetery, Pembroke, on Tuesday, August 14 at 12:00 NOON. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 31356, Tampa, FL, 33631-3356.
