Francis Sammartino, 86, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones in Naples, FL. Frank was born on October 18, 1925 in Roslindale, MA. After raising his family in Stoughton, MA he moved to Pembroke, MA and wintered in Naples, FL. He has been a resident of Naples, FL since 1988. He worked as a Traffic Management Specialist at Hanscom Airforce Base in Bedford, MA until his retirement in January 1986. As a WW II veteran who served from December 1943 through February 1946, he served in Italy in Company E 351st Infantry Regiment. Frank enjoyed going to the beach, playing tennis and bocce, bike riding, bird watching, gardening, and relaxing at the pool. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren sporting events. He was a lifetime South Shore Tennis Association member recipient. He also took great pleasure in being an usher at Saint Peter the Apostle Church and being on the Winterpark Board Associations in Naples, FL. He was predeceased by his beloved spouse of 49 years, Mary (Carlevale) Sammartino. He is survived by his loving companion of 11 years, Lori McQuinn; daughters, Karen (Paul) Sawchenko of Carlsbad, CA, Sandra (John) Ciulla of Scituate, MA and Joanne (Mark) Petrie of Pembroke, MA; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kate), John, Carolyn, Lauren, Mark, Gina and Michael. He was the devoted son of the late Pasquale & Erminia (Mancini) Sammartino and dear brother of the late Joseph Sammartino, William Martin and Lillian Fuccillo. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, (Route 14), Pembroke, on Thursday, May 3, from 4:00-8:00 PM. His funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover on Friday, May 4 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at the Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 Canton Street, Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation at www.damonrunyon.org
