Howard F. Burleigh, age 89, of Middleborough, formerly of West Bridgewater and Rockland, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, at his home. Born in 1922 in Scituate, MA, he was the son of the late E. Cecil & Cora F. (Webb) Burleigh. Mr. Burleigh was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the Infantry in the Philippines. Upon returning from the service, he worked at various supermarkets, retiring in 1986 from full-time work at Purity Supreme. Howard continued working part-time for another 13 years. He enjoyed horse back riding, camping, projects around the house and his family. Howard was the beloved husband of Elaine (Field) Burleigh and the late Evelyn (Bates) Burleigh; devoted father of Robert F. Burleigh of York, ME, Barbara E. Rascicot of Taunton, Virginia A. Dahlquist of Vero Beach, FL, Elizabeth S. Halpern of Stoughton, Deidra B. King of AZ and the late Charles Burleigh; loving grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of 21. He was the brother of the late W. Emerson Burleigh, Priscilla DeMello and Marion Smith. Calling hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, (Route 58), Carver, on Wednesday, December 28, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Graveside Services at the Washington Street Cemetery, Washington Street, Norwell, on Thursday, December 29 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
