Obituary of Gordon Deming
Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon Wolcott Deming, 84, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, died peacefully on December 10, 2011 with his beloved wife of 36 years, Genevieve Kirslis Deming, at his side.
Mr. Deming led an accomplished career in the antique business, not only as a purveyor of fine antiques, but also as a highly skilled cabinetmaker and noted expert in pewter, antique tools, and period furniture. Gordon was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 9, 1927 to Oliver Wolcott Deming and Marion Cloutier Deming and was a direct descendant of the 19th Governor of Connecticut, Oliver Wolcott. Gordon was raised in Westfield, MA along with his brother Richard, who predeceased him. Gordon graduated from the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Massachusetts. After graduation, Gordon successfully created and owned Deming Craftsmen in Granby, Connecticut specializing in finely handmade replicas of Early American, Colonial , furniture and furnishings. After many years in business, Gordon married Genevieve and moved to Duxbury where, together, they started Genevieve and Gordon Deming Antiques. As well-known and highly respected antique dealers, they travelled the country with their business, exhibiting at many prestigious antique shows in New England, Pennsylvania and Florida over the years.
Gordon was a member of the Pewter Collectors Club of America, The Early American Industries Association; and The Midwest Tool Collector`s Association.
Cherished by his family and loved and respected by friends and colleagues as a man of integrity, humility and kindness, Gordon Deming gave much, but asked for little in return. He achieved lasting success and will be deeply missed by many.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Kathleen Keenan Snow and her husband Attorney Christopher J. Snow of Provincetown, Massachusetts, and Miami, Florida, his son, Frederick of Rhode Island, his daughter Linda of Maine and grandson, Willem also of Maine.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Gordon's name.
