Dorothy Louise (Sullivan) Dwyer, 95, died peacefully November 17, 2011 at Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston. She was born February 6, 1916 in Boston. She was the youngest of eight daughters of the late Dr. John and Mrs. Mary (Lyons) Sullivan. Her seven sisters May Kelliher, Anna Lyons, Gertrude Sullivan, Regina Dore; Sr. Marguerite St. Alice, Sister of Notre Dame; Ellen Taylor and Pauline Ripley predecease her. Dorothy grew up in the Savin Hill section of Dorchester and summered with her family in Hanson on Maquan Pond. Dorothy graduated from the Dorchester High School for Girls in 1933. Dorothy married John Dwyer on October 1, 1949 at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Hanson. John died in 2005. She and John lived for many years in South Weymouth before retiring to South Meadow Village in Carver. John and Dorothy enjoyed traveling to the White Mountains, Cape Cod and Nova Scotia. They vacationed to the Canadian Rockies, Bermuda and Alaska. Twice they went to Ireland with her sister Anna and her husband Frank Lyons. Dorothy worked for several years in the Purchasing Dept. at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. She was a full-time homemaker for many years raising her son John and returned to work at Wollaston Alloys in Braintree. In retirement she loved to make arts and crafts for the Christmas Holly Fair at South Meadow Village in Carver. Dorothy is survived by her son John his wife Susan and their children, Kathryn and Joseph, all of Pembroke. Her only godchild, Anne Carty, who was a great comfort to Dorothy in her final years, survives her. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by her life long friend, Barbara Murphy, of Carver. Funeral from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, Pembroke, on Tuesday, November 22 at 9:00 AM, followed by Dorothy’s funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Hanson. Visiting hours are Monday, November 21, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home. Following the funeral, burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband of 55 years, John, who was a WWII Navy veteran. With the Christmas season upon us, a donation in Dorothy’s memory can be made to Globe Santa.
