Obituary of Frances M Burns

Frances M Burns, age 99, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in her sleep at home.

Fran was born in 1924 in Plymouth, MA and grew up in Duxbury from the age of 3. She attended Duxbury schools and graduated high school in 1941. She earned her B.A. degree from Bates College in 1945 and her M.Ed. from Bridgewater State University. Fran spent most of her professional career as an English teacher in Westwood, MA, and eventually became the Department Head. She retired back to Duxbury and lived in the home that her father originally built in 1924, in Standish Shore.

Fran's talents were many. She loved reading, boating and gardening. She worked side by side with her father, painting the amazing birds he would craft from wood. She crafted Christmas ornaments that family and friends alike cherished. Fran truly loved life at Standish Shore and would provide tours for family and friends, pointing out the desirable highlights of life in Duxbury.

She is preceded in death by her parents Thornton and Reatha. She is survived by her nieces Judy Warner and Patricia Pires and their families, cousins and friends.

Fran personally contributed to the Pilgrim Church of Duxbury United Church of Christ.Her family asks that if you are so moved, you donate to this fund in her memory.
