Obituary of George H. MacKinnon

George “Joe” MacKinnon, 73 of Middleboro, MA; formerly of Pembroke and Quincy, MA passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born and raised in Quincy, son of the late Corrine Cedarstrom MacKinnon and Earle MacKinnon. He was the brother of the late Donald E. MacKinnon, Barbara A, MacKinnon, Richard H. MacKinnon, Jean MacKinnon Billet. He was the uncle of the late Debi Anton. He leaves his wife, Jacqueline Happel MacKinnon and their three children: Scott D. MacKinnon and his wife, Lauri MacKinnon and their children, Jamie and Connor of Weymouth. Daren R. MacKinnon and his wife, Mary MacKinnon and their children, Gavin and Owen of Kingston. Heidi J Sargent and her husband, David and their children, Riana, Mikayla and Zachary of Halifax. Joe also leaves behind a brother, Paul S. MacKinnon and his wife, Christine of Weymouth, Ruth Hall of Kingston, Sister-in-Law, Lori Karelas and her sons Gregory of New York and Andreas of San Francisco, and many nieces and nephews. Joe was born and raised in Quincy. He was an electrician since graduating in 1960. He worked as an independent electrical contractor for over 28 years. He enjoyed carpentry and was always building – both for family and friends. Joe enjoyed basketball in younger years and refereed, as well. In addition golfing, puzzles,and Habitat for Humanity were also a passion. He was a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather to his family and seven grandchildren and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home at, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke on Thursday, February 2, from 9:00 to 11:00AM, with a Service at 11:00AM, folllowed by a burial at Pembroke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association http://www.alz.org/ or a charity of your choosing.
