Carol A. (Nelson) Smith of Pembroke passed away peacefully after a long illness with her family by her side on Monday, January 24, 2017 at age 76. Born in Lynn and raised in West Roxbury, she lived in Pembroke for 44 years and was a proud member of the Red Hatters, The Garden Club and volunteered for the Council of Aging. Carol was the loving mother of Richard S. Smith and his wife Diane of Hanover, Kelly J. Risotti and her husband Michael of Pembroke, and Kerry L. Piva and her husband Geoff of Andover. She was the dear grandmother of nine grandchildren. She was the beloved daughter of Jon Iva Nelson and Verna E. Lennon. Carol enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, baking, crafting and making ceramics with her friends. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots. She was a retired postal worker, having worked for the United States Postal Service for 15 years. Family and friends are invited to her memorial service, which will be held on Tuesday, January 31st, from 4 - 7 pm at Shepherd Funeral Home in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (https://donate3.cancer.org/).
