Obituary of Mary E. Mather

Mary E. (Shaw) Mather, 61, of Halifax, passed away quietly at the Jordan Hospital following a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer on July 22, 2012. She was the loving wife of John G. Mather and is also survived by her two daughters, Karen Harvey and her husband, Doug of Grafton and Lauren Mather of Halifax and her two sons John Mather, Jr. of Pembroke and Mark E. Mather of Ashburn, VA and his fiancée, Monica Miron; five grandchildren, Christopher Motta, Evan Motta, Addisyn Harvey, Dylan Harvey and Victoria Miron. Mary is the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Shaw of Arlington and will be greatly missed by her five sisters; Patty Feener and her husband, Roland of Woburn, Susan Davis and her husband, Tim of Medford; Helen Carter and her husband, Tom of Milton; Barbara Tarallo and her husband, Tom of Wyndham, NH and Judy Nickels of Milford; and her three brothers, William and his partner David of Milwaukee, WI; Peter and his wife MaryLee of Northbridge; and Edward and his wife Marsha of Walpole. She is the aunt to 24 nieces and nephews and the great aunt to 4. Mary attended school in Arlington, MA and graduated with a B.S. degree from the Boston University School of Education where she was inducted into the Pi Lambda Theta honor sorority for women in education. She taught sixth grade at the Plymouth Community Intermediate School. Mary was a parishioner of the Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax where she taught CCD and Baptismal preparation. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, Halifax. The Rev. Thomas Griffith will officiate. Burial will follow at the Central Cemetery, Halifax. All are welcome to attend. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory would be appreciated to the Jordan Hospital Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360.
