Arthur "Artie" Michael Stevens, 74 years old, of Middleborough, formerly of Pembroke, died on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 at home surrounded by his family and friends, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Arthur, affectionately known as Steve, was a great athlete in his day, drafted at 18 years old by the Cincinnati Reds Organization as a catcher. He was an exceptional baseball coach, leading his Babe Ruth Baseball Team to many championships in Pembroke. His professional career was spent with Prudential and Boston Mutual Life Insurance companies and he retired from the US Post Office. He served in the National Guard Reserves for 7 years. Artie was always quick with a joke and a smile for everyone he encountered and his number one pastime was spending time with family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Grispi) of Middleborough, formerly of Whitman; devoted father of Kelli Wilson and husband Willy of Park City, Utah, Kimberly Froh and husband Curtis of Dacula, GA, and Kevin Stevens of Pembroke; loving grandfather of Lexi and Hallie Froh of Dacula, GA, Luke, Kylie and Ryan Stevens of Duxbury; loving brother of Susan Farrell (Blaisdell) of Plymouth, Peter Stevens of Pembroke and Terry Stevens of Port St. Lucie, Florida; fun loving uncle of Shaun Farrell of Hanson, Matt Farrell of Plymouth, Holli Campbell-Fougere of Plymouth, Debra Hyson of Plymouth, Tammy Hyson of Ocala, FL, Stephanie Whitaker of Worcester, Nicki Hyson of Ocala, FL, Christopher Powers of Whitman, Rooney Powers of Yarmouth, the late Kathleen Powers of S. Boston, Terri DiZillo of Manchester, NH, Tracy Grispi of Brockton, Lynn Grispi of Brockton, the late Michael Grispi of Brockton, Kelly Griffin of Denver, CO and Stacey Galt of Weymouth. Visiting hours at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett Street, (Route 14), Pembroke, on Friday, May 11, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services at the Shepherd Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12 at 9:00 AM, followed by his funeral Mass at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan Street, Hanson at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in "Artie's" memory to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
