Paul Richard Burke Obituary

Paul Richard Burke, 86, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston on March 25, 1939, Paul was a proud resident of Pembroke for 60 years and a man defined by faith, service, craftsmanship, and devotion to those he loved.

He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a Special Intelligence Marine. His granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Burke of North Carolina (predeceased), later followed in his footsteps by joining the Marine Corps, a legacy that brought him great pride.

Paul worked in defense manufacturing, where he played a crucial role in the development of the Patriot Missile System, cable cutter technology, and the creation of night vision equipment. His work quietly contributed to the protection of others, something he never boasted about, but deeply believed in.

After his years in defense manufacturing, he became an expert in designing quality assurance processes and systems, work he loved and approached with meticulous attention to detail and a natural gift for mentoring others.

A master wood craftsman, Paul was known for his handcrafted cabinets, fine furniture, and the many homes he renovated over the years. He owned and operated his own woodworking business, Paul Burke & Son, where he taught his son David the craft, something that meant a great deal to him. He also enjoyed several hobbies, most notably his passion for coin collecting. Years ago, he helped build the First Assemblies of God Church in Pembroke with his own hands, a reflection of both his skill and his convictions. In later years, he was a dedicated member of Pembroke First Church.

Having faced challenges early in life, Paul developed a deep commitment to guiding young people toward steadiness and purpose. He served as a leader in both Boy Scouts and Royal Rangers and worked closely with troubled youth through many organizations including the Quincy Vocational Technical program, teaching not only discipline and responsibility but also the Word of God. Many of the young people he mentored, now grown men and women, later returned to thank him for the guidance and encouragement that helped shape their lives.

Paul was married for 64 years to the love of his life. He adored his wife, and they were truly the best of friends. Together they worked side by side on their home and yard, raising their family and building a life grounded in love, hard work, and partnership.

He is survived by his wife, Freda Denovan Burke of Pembroke; his son, David J. Burke of West Wareham and his wife, Coralee; his daughter, Joyce D. McCarthy of South Boston; his granddaughter, Erika Pikor of Carver and her husband, Shane, and their two children, Aiden Paul and Austin James; his sister, Dorothy Marie Allard of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.

Forever a faithful servant of God, he is now at home with Jesus, his Lord and Savior.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pembroke First Church, 105 Center Street, Pembroke, MA 02359, followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
