Charles A. Gilmore, 76, of Middleboro, MA, passed away on 21 February, 2026. Born on 27 December, 1949 in Boston, MA, he was a devoted husband to Frances M. Gilmore and a loving father to Joseph M. Gilmore and Christen M. Bishopric.
Dad was hard-working and dedicated, with a heart for service. He demonstrated this by joining the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He continued his love of service as a Brockton, MA Firefighter working in his dream career for 15 years before injury and illness forced his retirement. On the job, he was known for his courage and willingness to always be first in the fight. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions.
He was a man of strength, generosity, kindness, and humor and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his many years of fatherly love honored.
Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and being in the great outdoors. His love for God’s beautiful creation was something he shared with his children and grandchildren, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances M. Gilmore, his daughter, Christen M. Bishopric and her Husband Steven J. Bishopric Jr., son Joseph M. Gilmore and his wife Desiree N. Gilmore. Brother of Joseph Gilmore Jr. and Kristin Gilmore (2004), John and Deborah Gilmore, Robert Gilmore, Elaine Gilmore and James and Colleen Gilmore. Grandfather of Joseph M. Gilmore Jr., Joshua C. Gilmore, Grace E. Gilmore, and Faith V. Gilmore. In addition, he has a vast and wonderful extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A Wake will be held on Tuesday, 3 March, 2026 from 4-8 PM at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Carver, MA 02330.
