Jeffrey B. “Charlie” Richards of Pembroke passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the age of 67. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Jennifer (Jones) Richards. Jeff was the loving father of Brian Richards and his wife Kayla; Andy Richards and his wife Paula; and Kevin Richards and his fiancée Lindsey Baillie. Jeff was a devoted Papa to Cameron Lydon, Harrison Richards and Carter Richards, with his soon-to-be brother due to arrive in March. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Jewitt of Morrisville, Vermont, along with his brothers Dennis Richards and his wife Mary of Johnson, Vermont, and Michael Richards of St. Albans.
Jeff grew up in Johnson, Vermont, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer, in 1980. He found his love for the outdoors through his grandfather and became an avid hunter and fisherman. Jeff settled in Massachusetts in pursuit of a career in carpentry. He started his own business, Custom Design Home Improvement, in 1987 and was known for creating successful, long-term relationships with his customers. He took great pride in every job, no matter how big or small.
Jeff was a man of many talents and diverse interests. It seemed there was nothing he could not do. He practiced taxidermy, grew a large vegetable garden annually, worked on all the company and family vehicles, and always found time to help a friend in need at the drop of a hat.
He filled his free time with family and friends. His true passion was hunting, traveling as far away as Ohio and throughout all of New England, always returning to his Vermont roots.
Jeff shared his knowledge generously over the years, mentoring his sons and nephews and providing them with invaluable skills and guidance in the carpentry trade.
Services will be held at Shepherd’s Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, January 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a celebratory pastoral service at 7:00PM.
A burial service will be held in Johnson, Vermont, in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth or the Massachusetts Sportsmen’s National Land Trust (SNLT).
