Bertram LeRoy Walters Obituary

It is with great love and profound respect that the family of Bertram LeRoy Walters, 92, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, announces his peaceful passing. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, engineer, and friend, he lived a long life defined by a sense of adventure, love of family, service, curiosity, kindness and unwavering dedication to those he cared for.

Born with an adventurous spirit, Bert proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, carrying with him throughout his life the values of duty, resilience, and camaraderie that he learned during his years in uniform.

Following his military service, he built a distinguished career as Vice President of Engineering at Laars Heatmaker, where he earned the admiration of colleagues for his sharp mind, steady leadership, and commitment to innovation. His ability to guide teams, solve complex problems, and mentor younger engineers left a lasting legacy in the community he helped shape.

Outside of his professional life, Bert was an avid sailor who found peace and joy on the water. Whether trimming sails, charting a course, or simply watching the sun dip below the horizon, sailing remained one of his greatest passions. Given his love of the sea, he spent several years helping others, by taxiing them to their vessels in Duxbury Harbor as a launch captain. He also dedicated many years as a volunteer for Project Gurnet and Bug Light, giving his time to preserve and celebrate a place he loved.

For 58 beautiful years, Bert shared his life with his beloved wife, Beverly (Meehan) Walters. Their partnership was a source of strength and laughter, a bond that set a lasting example of devotion for everyone who knew them.

He was the proud father of three sons, John (Duxbury, MA), Rich (Apex, NC) and Thom (Nashua, NH), who will forever carry forward his values, humor, and steady presence. His three grandchildren, Brian Walters, Evelyn Walters and Mary Grace Walters — each treasured beyond measure—were the light of his later years, filling his days with joy, stories, and pride.

Bertram will be remembered for his quiet generosity, his thoughtful wisdom, his love of the sea, and the gentle way he moved through the world. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the community he supported, and the many lives he touched.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his honor to the Project Gurnet and Bug Light preservation efforts (https://buglight.org/show-your-support)

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
