Obituary for Mary I. Simpson, 98 Centerville, MA – Mary Imelda Simpson passed away peacefully at Cape Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on the morning of October 27, 2025, following a lengthy illness. Born in Boston, Mary was raised and educated in Quincy. Following her graduation from North Quincy High School in 1944, she traveled to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a typist during the waning months of World War II. Mary witnessed first hand the spontaneous celebrations which erupted in our nation’s capital on V-J Day in 1945, of which she had vivid memories. After completing her work assignment, she returned to Quincy and joined the New England Telephone Company in 1946, where she would work as a telephone operator for the next 34 years. Retiring in 1980, Mary spent the next decade living in Scottsdale, AZ followed by an additional three years in Winston-Salem, NC before accompanying family members to Cape Cod in 1994, where she would spend the remainder of her life. Mary was predeceased by sisters Ruth Barr and Pauline Simpson and brothers Robert and William. She is survived by sisters Audrey Dietel of West Yarmouth and Doris Pedersen of Centerville, along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her greatly.
