Peter M. Vacchino Obituary

Peter Vacchino of Kingston, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. He is survived by his children Kara Swisher (Chris), Lynsey Canney-Vacchino (Danielle), Mark Vacchino, and their mother Beth Vacchino. Additionally, his grandchildren Cecelia and Oliver Swisher, who brought him so much joy. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend Laurie Hulbig, brother Tom Vacchino (Nancy), sister Cindy Vacchino, nephew Tim Vacchino (Elinor) and sister Margot Peters.

Peter was born in Plymouth, the son of Fred and Betty Vacchino and was raised in a tight knit neighborhood near Nelson beach. Summers were spent with his family creating lasting memories at Widgeon Pond. At 18 he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War, proudly serving on the USS Yorktown. After his return, he met Beth Whiteley, and together they built a family in Kingston. Peter made his career at Verizon for over 40 years, where he loved the challenge of solving a complicated technical issue and was proud of being known as “the fix it guy.” In retirement, he enjoyed tending to his house and yard, jamming in the living room on his guitar, and spending time with his family. Family was extremely important to him, which expanded to include Laurie’s children and grandchildren. He and Laurie enjoyed going on adventures and dancing on the weekends.

Peter loved the outdoors, whether working in his yard, skiing with his friends in the ski group “The Flying Turkeys”, or just swinging in his hammock with his dog by his side. He was always quick to help anyone who needed a hand, had a great sense of humor and was never shy about striking up a conversation with anyone willing to listen.

Peter’s kindness, generosity, and quick wit will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the family he was so proud of, and the memories he helped create.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Newfield House for the love and care they showed to Peter during his time there.

Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 10th at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. Kingston, from 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 11th at 11am at St. Peters, 86 Court Street in Plymouth.
